JUVEDERM XC INJECTIONS

All treatments begin with a medical history review and a consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and to come up with a plan. We will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.

Juvéderm® is injected into facial tissue in a simple and quick treatment performed by a PA-C. We use a blunt tipped fine-gauge needle called a canula.

You can either sit or recline during treatment.

When injected into the dermis, Juvéderm® replenishes the hyaluronic acid that has been absorbed into your body over time, helping to fill fine lines and wrinkles, and achieve a more youthful appearance.

The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation.

JUVEDERM XC INFORMATION

Juvéderm XC® is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a naturally occuring sugar found in the body. In the skin it delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume.

Hyaluronic acid works by holding in water at the injection site and acting as a cushioning agent. It temporarily adds volume and a smoother appearance to skin. Just one treatment is often enough to achieve optimal results.

JUVEDERM XC CANDIDATES

Most Juvederm XC candidates are over the age of 30, and are seeking to fill pronounced lines, wrinkles, or folds. For people experiencing fine lines, Botox may be a solution, which also helps to remove the appearance of fine lines.

Candidacy for Juvederm XC depends on your age, skin condition, past procedures, the look you are aiming to achieve, and various other factors. The best way to get an accurate response is to have a one-on-one conversation with our cosmetic injectors.

CAN JUVEDERM XC BE REVERSED

Yes! Juvederm XC can be reversed (dissolved) with hylauronidase. The hyluronidase solution can be injected into the same area, and will usually dissolve the Juvederm XC in four to five days.

DO JUVEDERM XC INJECTIONS HURT?

While some clients report having little to no pain, different people have unique tollerances to pain. Our injectors are specially trained by Dr.Ackerman to produce the best possible results, with as little pain, bruising, and swelling as possible.

In addition, we use a special canula technique, which causes minimal damage to the skin, and thus less brusing.

Juvederm XC, unlike some other products in the Juvederm line, does not contain litocane. For patients who are sensitive to pain a numbing creme can be applied.

PREPARING FOR JUVEDERM XC TREATMENTS

You will be asked to avoid the following medications and herbs which may increase bleeding, and may cause bruising for at least two weeks prior to Juvederm XC injections:

• Any NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Aleve®, Motrin®, Advil®, or Aspirin®)
• Coumadin
• Garlic
• Ginseng
• Ginkgo Biloba
• Glucosamine
• Fish Oil, and St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, and Alcohol.

It is best to remove makeup from the area being treated. We will gladly do this in office for you, however it is ideal if this can be done prior to treatment.

JUVEDERM XC PROCEDURE

Juvederm XC procedures are very simple.

At Estucia, all treatments begin with a private consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals. During the initial consultation, our practitioner in Palm Beach will ask you about your desired results and create a course of action with you. Then we will take a brief medical history to ensure there will be no adverse reactions to Juvederm XC, or other desired treatments.

To make your experience as comfortable as possible, you’re welcomed to either sit or recline during treatment.

Depending on where you are being injected, your Juvederm XC procedure may begin with numbing creme. Injections are administered with an ultra-fine blunt needle directly into each of the areas being treated. Discomfort is brief, very similar to drawing blood. There is usually minimal discomfort once the injection is complete.

We may briefly apply a cold compress to your injected area to help soothe it and reduce the swelling, if any. Afterwards we will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.

The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation.

If you’re like most patients, you’ll return directly to work or normal activity immediately.

JUVEDERM XC RECOVERY

After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache, itching at the injection site or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and other areas where lines and wrinkles are filled. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.

AFTER RECEIVING JUVEDERM XC

As with most cosmetic injections, we recommend that you not exercise directly following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the product settling properly.

It’s important to avoid strenuous activities, like working out, for 8 hours following treatment. Do not lie down for 8 hours following treatment.

To avoid altering your body’s temperature avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or extreme cold.

To reduce the risk of facial cold sore recurrence that could be caused by needle punctures, talk with your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize the likelihood of an outbreak.

To decrease the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site you may use cold compresses to reduce swelling. Avoid alcohol, any non-prescribed blood thinners or NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, and some herbs like St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment.

HOW LONG DOES JUVEDERM XC LAST?

Juvéderm lasts for different lengths of time in different people, depending upon where it is injected. In areas where there is less movement of the skin such as tear troughs and cheeks, Juvéderm will last for nine months to one year. In areas where there is more movement, such as the nasolabial folds (smile lines), Juvéderm tends to last for about six to nine months. The lips have the most movement, and fillers tend to last four to six months in this area.

The results also vary from person to person depending on metabolism, water intake, exercise, vitamins, and various other personal factors.
