Kybella is the world’s first fat loss injection approved for use in the chin. The product is injected in a medical spa. It is applied directly into the area being treated, and works to slowly and naturally diminish fat over the course of a few weeks. KYBELLA TREATMENT AREAS

Kybella is currently only approved by the FDA for use in the chin, neck, and jawline areas, though we are hoping it will soon be approved for the underarms, bra buldge areas, and stomach “pooch”. In the meantime, other fat loss injections, such as B12 + Mic injections are approved for use in those areas.

HOW KYBELLA WORKS

Kybella is a simple treatment that is injected directly into the area being treated through a series of small injections. These injections diminish the preplatsmal fat pad (also known as submental fulness) in the neck and jawline areas.

Kybella is a manmade form of a substance your body already produces to absorb fats. The substance your body produces is called deoxycholic acid. Kybella is made of keoxycholic acid. They perform essentially the same function, with the advantage that the cosmetic injections can be injected into specific areas of the body, in controlled amounts.

Another factor that may affect a patient’s candidacy for the medspa treatment is overall weight. For some patients who are at what is an above typical weight for themselves, it is best to lose any desired weight prior to treatments, to determine where the body naturally dissolves weight from first.

THE KYBELLA PROCEDURE

At Estucia, all treatments begin with a private consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals. During the initial consultation, our practitioner in Palm Beach will take a brief medical history to ensure there will be no adverse reactions to the product.

After your conversation about your desired results, our cosmetic injector will let you know if you are a candidate for Kybella, and if it is the best treatment option to achieve your desired results. We will review the number of treatments that will be needed to achieve your desired result, and how much product will be needed for each treatment.

Once we are ready to begin the Kybella treatment we will map out the exact location of each injection, as pictured below. There are typically a series of 10-25 injections, all performed at once.

We anethetize and numb the area before treatments. Afterwards we will provide a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatment.

For patients desiring more progressive results, an additional 1-3 treatments, can be done one month apart.

The entire appointment, including the consultation, should take one hour. If you’re like most patients, you’ll return directly to work or normal activity immediately.

PREPARING FOR KYBELLA TREATMENTS

You will be asked to avoid the following medications and herbs which may increase bleeding, and may cause bruising for at least two weeks prior to Kybella injections:

• Any NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Aleve®, Motrin®, Advil®, or Aspirin®)
• Coumadin
• Garlic
• Ginseng
• Ginkgo Biloba
• Glucosamine
• Fish Oil, and St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, and Alcohol.

It is best to remove makeup from the area being treated. We will gladly do this in office for you, however it is ideal if this can be done prior to treatment.

AFTER RECEIVING YOUR TREATMENT

Most patients will have minor swelling of the injected area for 1-3 days following treatment. This is normal, and will settle on its own. 

As with most cosmetic injections, we recommend that you not exercise directly following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the product settling properly.

It’s important to avoid strenuous activities, like working out, for 8 hours following treatment. Do not lie down for 8 hours following treatment.

To avoid altering your body’s temperature avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or extreme cold.

To decrease the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site you may use cold compresses to reduce swelling. Avoid alcohol, any non-prescribed blood thinners or NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, and some herbs like St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment.

The effects of Kybella take place slowly over the course of 1-30 days. Kybella is a permanent fat loss solution, so you can enjoy your slimmer, trimmer more youthful jawline for life!
