Sculptra creates a naturally youthful look, for years to come

SCULPTRA

Sculptra is a new injectable dermal filler that replaces lost collagen from the skin. Collagen is a key element that helps to retain firmness in the skin. Without collagen, the skin loses volume and sags into folds and wrinkles. Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid suspended in water. The tiny particles of PLA stimulate your body’s natural growth of collagen within the deepest layers of the dermis, thereby improving the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles, and folds as well as other skin depressions.

The results are gradual and highly effective in restoring facial volume, smoothing wrinkles and resulting a youthful appearance. If you want to appear more youthful-looking — without appearing like you’ve had work done — then Sculptra may be a good choice for you.

WHAT IS SCULPTRA

Sculptra is one of the few cosmetic injectables to address the underlying cause of facial aging — not just the symptoms. Rather than treating solely the outer layers of skin, Sculptra helps rebuild the facial frame starting from the underlayers. It acts as an injectable solution that stiumulates collagen growth, which helps to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds over time.

Sculptra works with your body to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s collagen, which supports the the inner structure and volume in your skin. As Sculptra’s PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stiumulate your body’s natural collagen production. Those rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.

WHAT IS COLLAGEN

Collagen is the most abundant protein found in the human body. It’s what gives our skin it’s strength and elasticity. In addition to our skin, collagen is most commonly found in our bones, muscles and tendons. You can think of it as the “glue” that holds us together.

There are over 16 types of collagen in our bodies. Type 1 collagen is the kind most associated with the dermis. Collagen is composed of amino acids including Proline, Glycine, Glutamine, and Arginine.

INJESTABLE COLLAGEN VS TOPICAL COLLAGEN VS INJECTABLE COLLAGEN

There are three ways to consume collagen. Firstly, Collagen can be found in many foods from fish to bone broth to berries. It can also be injested as a dietary supplement in both pill and liquid form. Secondly, many creams contain collagen which can be applied to the face and absorbed into the skin. And thirdly, it can be injected directly into the skin.

The trouble with Topical Collagen Cremes is that collagen is naturally found in the dermis of your skin – those are the underlayers beneath the fat. Cremes are not able to penetrate to that level of skin.

Injectable collagens are the only forms that are able to directly target the area where your body naturally needs the collagen. We use a micro-fine needle to inject Sculptra (basically liquid collagen food) into the dermis of your skin. Injecting collagen is dozens of times more effective in creating a visually more youthful appearance than injesting collagen or using cremes.

You will be asked to avoid the following medications and herbs which may increase bleeding, and may cause bruising for at least two weeks prior to your Sculptra Treatment:

  • Any NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, or Asprin)
  • Coumadin
  • Garlic
  • Ginseng
  • Ginkgo Biloba
  • Glucosamine
  • Fish Oil, and St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, and Alcohol.

SCULPTRA FOR HAIR LOSS PROCEDURE

A Sculptra procedure is relatively simple. We begin in our West Palm Beach medspa with a consultation to review your desired beauty results. We’ll review what facial changes you’re hoping for, what you think your problem areas are, and if we think Sculptra can be an effective treatment to achieve your desired beauty results.

If Sculptra is right for you we can often perform the treatment injections immediately following your consultation.

A local anesthetic will be placed on the area prior to being treated but you will be fully awake and speaking during the injection. Then, we inject the Sculptra into the areas being treated with a very thin needle. A slight tingling feeling may remain for a 1-3 hours after the procedure due to the anesthetic.

AFTER RECEIVING SCULPTRA

A brief and mild inflammation, redness, and numbness may be present for a few hours.

As with most cosmetic treatments, we recommend that you not exercise directly following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the product settling properly.

You’ll want to apply a cold compress to the area for a few minutes at a time to reduce any common swelling.

Your physician may reccomend facial massages are helpful up to give times a day for five minutes. If appropriate we will demonstrate how to do this.

Avoid excessive sunlight and UV lamp exposure until any initial swelling and redness go away. The use of sunscreen is recommended following treatment.

Avoid alcohol, any non-prescribed blood thinners or NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, and some herbs like St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment.

As always, please call us if you have any concerns after treatment or if you experience any side effects.
