VOLUMA’S DIFFERENTIATORS

With so many fillers available, what is the difference between Voluma, and other hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvederm XC, Juvederm Ultra, Restylane, or Perlane?

While most fillers have a texture similar to pudding, Voluma’s texture is thicker, and more similar to gelatin. (Think, Jello.) The thicker texture enables the product to build upon itself and gives it the ability to expand and lift wherever it is injected. It does not have the malability to bend and flow with facial movements the way other (more pudding-like) products are.

Because of this, it is ONLY intended for use in the cheeks. It also works well in the chin, but given the thickness of the product, and lack of flexibility, thats about it.

A propper Voluma injection starts deep within the dermis, and is injected so that it lays right on top of your facial bones, whereas other fillers can be injected in shallower areas of the skin.

Another differentiator of Voluma is the length of time it lasts. According to Allergan it is the only filler proven to last up to two years.

Other Juvederm products can smooth lines and wrinkles, and plump lips.

AREAS TREATED BY VOLUMA

While most other fillers can ube used in several areas, Voluma is ONLY intended for use in the cheeks. The product is ideal for sunken or hollow cheeks.

CAN VOLUMA BE REVERSED

Yes! Voluma can be reversed (dissolved) with hylauronidase or vitrase. The hyluronidase solution can be injected into the same area, and will usually dissolve the Juvederm in four to five days.

DO VOLUMA INJECTIONS HURT?

Different patients are more or less sensitive to pain. Because Voluma is injected deeper into the skin than other Juvederm products, it is said to have a more notable feeling.

That said, our injectors are specially trained by Dr. Ackerman to produce the best possible results, with as little pain, bruising, and swelling as possible.

PREPARING FOR VOLUMA TREATMENTS

You will be asked to avoid the following medications and herbs which may increase bleeding, and may cause bruising for at least two weeks prior to Voluma injections:

  • Any NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Aleve®, Motrin®, Advil®, or Aspirin®)
  • Coumadin
  • Garlic
  • Ginseng
  • Ginkgo Biloba
  • Glucosamine
  • Fish Oil, and St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, and Alcohol.

It is best to remove makeup from the area being treated. We will gladly do this in office for you, however it is ideal if this can be done prior to treatment.

VOLUMA PROCEDURE

Voluma procedures are very simple.

At Estucia, all treatments begin with a private consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals. During the initial consultation, our practitioner in Palm Beach will ask you about your desired results and create a course of action with you. Then we will take a brief medical history to ensure there will be no adverse reactions to Voluma, or other desired treatments.

To make your experience as comfortable as possible, you’re welcomed to either sit or recline during treatment.

The Voluma procedure begins with numbing creme. Injections are administered with an ultra-fine blunt needle directly into each of the areas being treated. Discomfort is brief, very similar to drawing blood. There is usually minimal discomfort once the injection is complete.

We may briefly apply a cold compress to your injected area to help soothe it and reduce the swelling, if any. Afterwards we will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.

The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation. The injections themselves take about 20 minutes.

If you’re like most patients, you’ll return directly to work or normal activity immediately.

VOLUMA RECOVERY

Your cheeks may feel swollen or stiff for 3-7 days after the injections. Swelling and tenderness are normal.

AFTER RECEIVING VOLUMA

As with most cosmetic injections, we recommend that you not exercise directly following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the product settling properly.

It’s important to avoid strenuous activities, like working out, for 8 hours following treatment. Do not lie down for 8 hours following treatment.

To avoid altering your body’s temperature avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or extreme cold.

To reduce the risk of facial cold sore recurrence that could be caused by needle punctures, talk with your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize the likelihood of an outbreak.

To decrease the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site you may use cold compresses to reduce swelling. Avoid alcohol, any non-prescribed blood thinners or NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, and some herbs like St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment.

HOW LONG DOES VOLUMA LAST

Voluma is the only filler proven to last up to two years. All fillers last for different lengths of time in different people, depending upon the site of the injection, metabolism, water intake, exercise, vitamins, and various other personal factors.
