Juvéderm® is the #1 selling collection of hyaluronic acid fillers in the United States. Each product in the Juvéderm® collection of fillers adds volume to a different area of the face to lift cheeks, smooth parentheses lines, or plump the lips. The results are natural looking and long lasting.

JUVEDERM INFORMATION

The Juvéderm® family of injectable hyaluronic acid dermal fillers is produced by Allergan, the same makers of Botox. The products are used to provide 9 months to two years of correction for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, weakened cheekbones, or deflated lips.

JUVEDERM COMPARRISON

With so many kinds of filler on the market, and five alone in the Juvederm line, how do we know which to use?

Juvederm XC, is the most versitile filler on the market to incorporate a Litocane numbing agent. Often referred to as simply Juvederm, it is primarily used in wrinkles, folds, cheeks, and lips. Of all the Juvederm products, Juvederm XC offers the most dramatic lip results.

Juvederm Utra XC is a great option for those looking for a subtle augmentation in the lips, or are looking to fill the lines around the lips.

Juvederm Volbella XC also fills lips, but rather than being used for augmentation, it is used to restore a youthful look to lips that have been softened or deflated overtime. It can also be used on younger patients looking for the most subtle of lip fillers. As an added advantage, Volbella lasts for up to 1 year, the longest of all lip fillers.

Juveder Voluma XC is the last, and most distinct of all Juvederm products, in that it is used soley for the cheeks. It creates a fuller, more apple-like result than traditional Juvederm, due to its gellatin-like consistancy, which enables Voluma to stiffen and build on top of itself.

JUVEDERM INFORMATION

The Juvéderm® collection of fillers is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. Each product in the Juvéderm® collection of fillers is made from a modified form of HA.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the body. Hyaluronic acid works by holding in water at the injection site and acting as a cushioning agent. It adds temporary volume and a smoother appearance to skin. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal results.

Juvéderm® products are developed using the Hylacross technology to allow a smoother, malleable gel, compared to some hyaluronic gel products that have a granular consistency.

HOW JUVEDERM AND HYALURONIC ACID WORK

The magic of Juvederm lays in the Hyaluronic Acid.

Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in the body and is found in all species, primarily in the eyes and joints.

Hyaluronic acid is highly attracted to water and has the ability to bind to it, acting as nature’s moisturizer, keeping your skin soft, supple and hydrated. Unfortunately, as we get older, our bodies produce less of this heavenly stuff, leading to wrinkles, dry skin and sagging.

By injecting into the skin we are able to fill in wrinkles and lips with the water that’s attracted by it. The result is a soft and supple improvement that looks natural, because it is natural.

As an added bonus, hyaluronic acid hydrates the skin and triggers the production of more collagen, resulting in youthful-looking skin.

But does hyaluronic acid actually work?

The answer is yes, it absolutely works, and the results and research prove it.

Aside from hundreds of before and afters on the effectiveness of Juvederm fillers, and reviews from tens of thousands of happy customers, a 2008 review in The Archives of Dermatology found that the injection of hyaluronic acid is clinically effective in fighting off old age. It was found to visibly increase collagen production after just one month, and the benefits lasted for about six. Topical hyaluronic acid was also proven to be effective.

Some Juvéderm® XC products also contain the local anesthetic lidocaine for a more comfortable injection. Juvéderm® Ultra XC and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC both contain 0.3% preservative-free lidocaine and numb the treatment area within seconds. The Juvéderm® Ultra Plus products contain more highly cross-linked formulations for volumizing and correction of deeper folds and wrinkles.

HOW JUVEDERM’S UNIQUE HYDRACROSS TECHNOLOGY

Hylacross technology is the unique science behind Juvederm’s super consistent crosslinked Hyaularonic Acid (HA). Most fillers, like Restylane and Perlane, use a sizing method. Juvederm’s Hylacross manufacturing process doesn’t break up the crosslinked HA into various sizes. Instead it uses a bacterial fermentation process that produces a blend of particle sizes, which allow the particles to blend into the tissue better more effectively and more naturally.

The process creates an extremely stable HA filler thats quality is unmatched by other dermal fillers. Hylacross technology has made Juvederm the first and only smooth-consistency gel of its kind, along with a number of other important benefits including:

Highest Concentration of HA
With 24mg/mL Juvederm contains the highest concentration of HA on the market. Because HA degrades after being injected, having a high concentration of HA means Juvederm will last longer.

Higher Degree of Crosslinking
The degree of cross-linking directly impacts the length of time HA lasts in the skin. The more cross-linking a filler has, has the longer it will last. The crosslinking is what gives the gel its strenth, enabling it to last longer. Juvederm is 90% cross-linked making it the filler with the best cross-linking on the market.

Smoother Consistency and Flow
Because Juvederm has a more consistent particle size and has a low-viscosity this filler gel is extremely smooth. This helps Juvederm flow easily and consistently for a smooth injection. The smoother a product is, the more precise we are able to place our injections.

More Comfortable Injection Process
The smooth consistency makes Juvederm a more comfortable injectable as we need to assert less pressure to push the gel out of the needle. Less pressure results in a smoother transfer process which leads to less trauma on the tissue, and thus less bruising and swelling.

Numbing Agent
Some Juvederm products also include lidocaine to help further improve comfort of the injections both during and after the treatment.

Better Cohesion to Skin and Better Building Abilities
Juvederm holds its shape better under pressure, and thus is able to elevate skin and form a firmer, fuller, stronger result. It also fills spaces better than other HA fillers.

Improved Longevity
Juvederm is the only HA filler that has been proven to last up to one year, with Voluma lasting up to two years. When dermal fillers first entered the market they lasted 2-3 months. Juvederm has dramatically improved the length of time the fillers last for, and continues to grow.

JUVEDERM INJECTIONS

All treatments begin with a medical history review and a consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and to come up with a plan. We will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.

Juvéderm® is injected into the skin in a simple and quick treatment performed by a licensed healthcare provider using a fine-gauge needle. You can either sit or recline during treatment.

When injected into the dermis, Juvéderm® replenishes the hyaluronic acid that has been absorbed into your body over time, helping to fill fine lines and wrinkles, and achieve a more youthful appearance.

The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation.

JUVEDERM CANDIDATES

If you’re looking to fight the signs of facial aging, Juvederm might be a solution for you. Depending on your age, skin condition, past procedures, the look you are aiming to achieve, and various other factors, Juvederm may be for you. This varies on a case by case basis. The best way to get an accurate response is to have a one-on-one conversation with our cosmetic injectors.

CAN JUVEDERM BE REVERSED

Yes! Juvederm can be reversed (dissolved) with hylauronidase. The hyluronidase solution can be injected into the same area, and will usually dissolve the Juvederm in four to five days.

DO JUVEDERM INJECTIONS HURT?

While some clients report having little to no pain, different people are more or less sensitive to pain. Our injectors are specially trained by Dr.Ackerman to produce the best possible results, with as little pain, bruising, and swelling as possible.

Some Juvéderm products contain the local anesthetic lidocaine for a more comfortable injection.

PREPARING FOR JUVEDERM TREATMENTS

You will be asked to avoid the following medications and herbs which may increase bleeding, and may cause bruising for at least two weeks prior to Juvederm injections:

  • Any NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Aleve®, Motrin®, Advil®, or Aspirin®)
  • Coumadin
  • Garlic
  • Ginseng
  • Ginkgo Biloba
  • Glucosamine
  • Fish Oil, and St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, and Alcohol.

It is best to remove makeup from the area being treated. We will gladly do this in office for you, however it is ideal if this can be done prior to treatment.

JUVEDERM PROCEDURE

The majority of Juvederm procedures are very simple.

At Estucia, all treatments begin with a private consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals. During the initial consultation, our practitioner in Palm Beach will ask you about your desired results and create a course of action with you. Then we will take a brief medical history to ensure there will be no adverse reactions to Juvederm, or other desired treatments.

To make your experience as comfortable as possible, you’re welcomed to either sit or recline during treatment.

Depending on where you are being injected, your Juvederm procedure may begin with numbing creme. Injections are administered with an ultra-fine blunt needle directly into each of the areas being treated. Discomfort is brief, very similar to drawing blood. There is usually minimal discomfort once the injection is complete.

We may briefly apply a cold compress to your injected area to help soothe it and reduce the swelling, if any. Afterwards we will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.

The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation.

If you’re like most patients, you’ll return directly to work or normal activity immediately.

JUVEDERM RECOVERY

After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache and itching at the injection site or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14–18 days in lips. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.

AFTER RECEIVING JUVEDERM

As with most cosmetic injections, we recommend that you not exercise directly following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the product settling properly.

It’s important to avoid strenuous activities, like working out, for 8 hours following treatment. Do not lie down for 8 hours following treatment.

To avoid altering your body’s temperature avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or extreme cold.

To reduce the risk of facial cold sore recurrence that could be caused by needle punctures, talk with your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize the likelihood of an outbreak.

To decrease the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site you may use cold compresses to reduce swelling. Avoid alcohol, any non-prescribed blood thinners or NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, and some herbs like St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment.

HOW LONG DOES JUVEDERM LAST?

Juvéderm lasts for different lengths of time in different people, depending upon where it is injected. In areas where there is less movement of the skin such as tear troughs and cheeks, Juvéderm will last for nine months to one year. In areas where there is more movement, such as the nasolabial folds (smile lines), Juvéderm tends to last for about six to nine months. The lips have the most movement, and fillers tend to last four to six months in this area.

The results also vary from person to person depending on metabolism, water intake, exercise, vitamins, and various other personal factors.

Whether you concerned about wrinkles in your forehead, smile lines, sagging skin, facial bone loss, or other facial aging concerns, Estucia of Palm Beach can help. Ask us how dermal fillers or cosmetic injectables can give you smoother, fresher, more youthful skin.

We also offer advanced treatments to tighten skin, remove unwanted hair or veins, or strengthen weakened hair follicles. Also available are a variety of prescription diet pills, weight loss solutions, appetite suppresants, and hormone balancing options.
