HOW BOTOX® WORKS
It’s really quite simple. Botox utilizes a natural, purified protein called botulinum that is administered at very low doses to reduce the contractions of wrinkle-causing muscles. Most typically these are the muscles on your forehead and the small corrugator muscles between your eyebrows. These muscles get in the habit of staying contracted and cause people to look perpetually worried or mad.
We utilize a special cannula technique to minimize brushing and swelling, and minimize the impact of the injection. Our skill and precise placement technique means you get the best and longest lasting results from your Botox Cosmetic, dermal wrinkle filler and volume replacement treatments possible.

PREPARING FOR BOTOX® TREATMENTS
Prior to your procedure you will be asked to avoid certain medications and herbs which may increase bleeding, and may cause bruising.
Before Botox injections, patients are asked to avoid taking the following substances for at least two weeks:
- Any NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Aleve®, Motrin®, Advil®, or Aspirin®)
- Coumadin
- Garlic
- Ginseng
- Ginkgo Biloba
- Glucosamine
- Fish Oil, and St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, and Alcohol.
It is best to remove makeup from the area being treated. We will gladly do this in office for you, however it is ideal if this can be done prior to treatment.
BOTOX® PROCEDURE
At Estucia, all treatments begin with a private consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals. During the initial consultation, our practitioner in Palm Beach will take a brief medical history to ensure there will be no adverse reactions to the product.
To make your experience as comfortable as possible, you’re welcomed to either sit or recline during treatment. The Botox procedure is quick with no anesthesia or numbing creme required. Injections are administered with an ultra-fine blunt needle directly into each of the areas being treated. Discomfort is minimal and brief, very similar to a tiny pinch or prick. There is usually no discomfort once the injection is complete.
We sometimes briefly apply a cold compress to your injected area to help soothe it and reduce the swelling, if any. Afterwards we will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.
Botox is so simple, it’s very often injected at the same time as other wrinkle fillers such as Restylane, Radiesse and Juvederm.
The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation.
If you’re like most patients, you’ll return directly to work or normal activity immediately.
Most people are very surprised the first time to see just how quickly and comfortably Botox® can be injected.
AFTER RECEIVING BOTOX®
We recommend that you not exercise directly following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the product settling properly.
It’s important to avoid strenuous activities, like working out, for 8 hours following treatment. Do not lie down for 8 hours following treatment.
To avoid altering your body’s temperature avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or extreme cold.
To reduce the risk of facial cold sore recurrence that could be caused by needle punctures, talk with your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize the likelihood of an outbreak.
To decrease the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site you may use cold compresses to reduce swelling. Avoid alcohol, any non-prescribed blood thinners or NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, and some herbs like St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment.
HOW LONG DOES BOTOX® LAST?
The effects of Botox take place in just a few days, with the full effects appearing after 14 days. Botox is known to last for approximately 6 months, however, people’s bodies absorb injections at different rates, depending on a variety of factors including exercise, vitamins, water intake, medications, metabolism, and other personal and health factors.
The location of the injections in the face or body may also impact the amount of time the Botox® injection lasts in the body.
