JUVEDERM ULTRA XC INJECTIONS
All treatments begin with a medical history review and a consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and to come up with a plan. We will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.
Juvéderm® is injected into the skin in a simple and quick treatment performed by a licensed healthcare provider using a fine-gauge needle. You can either sit or recline during treatment.
When injected into the dermis, Juvéderm® replenishes the hyaluronic acid that has been absorbed into your body over time, helping to fill fine lines and wrinkles, and achieve a more youthful appearance.
The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation.
JUVEDERM ULTRA XC INFORMATION
The Juvéderm® collection of fillers is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. Each product in the Juvéderm® collection of fillers is made from a modified form of HA.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the body. Hyaluronic acid works by holding in water at the injection site and acting as a cushioning agent. It adds temporary volume and a smoother appearance to skin. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal results.
Juvéderm® products are developed using the Hylacross technology to allow a smoother, malleable gel, compared to some hyaluronic gel products that have a granular consistency.

CAN JUVEDERM ULTRA XC BE REVERSED
Yes! Juvederm can be reversed (dissolved) with hylauronidase. The hyluronidase solution can be injected into the same area, and will usually dissolve the Juvederm in four to five days.
DO JUVEDERM ULTRA XC INJECTIONS HURT
While some clients report having little to no pain, different people are more or less sensitive to pain. Our injectors are specially trained by Dr. Ackerman to produce the best possible results, with as little pain, bruising, and swelling as possible.
Juvéderm® Ultra XC contains 0.3% preservative-free lidocaine and numb the treatment area within seconds.

PREPARING FOR JUVEDERM ULTRA XC TREATMENTS
You will be asked to avoid the following medications and herbs which may increase bleeding, and may cause bruising for at least two weeks prior to Juvederm Ultra XC injections:
- Any NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Aleve®, Motrin®, Advil®, or Aspirin®)
- Coumadin
- Garlic
- Ginseng
- Ginkgo Biloba
- Glucosamine
- Fish Oil, and St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, and Alcohol.
It is best to remove makeup from the area being treated. We will gladly do this in office for you, however it is ideal if this can be done prior to treatment.
JUVEDERM ULTRA XC PROCEDURE
Juvederm Ultra XC procedures are very simple.
At Estucia, all treatments begin with a private consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals. During the initial consultation, our practitioner in Palm Beach will ask you about your desired results and create a course of action with you. Then we will take a brief medical history to ensure there will be no adverse reactions to Juvederm Ultra XC, or other desired treatments.
To make your experience as comfortable as possible, you’re welcomed to either sit or recline during treatment.
Depending on where you are being injected, your Juvederm procedure may begin with numbing creme. Injections are administered with an ultra-fine blunt needle directly into each of the areas being treated. Discomfort is brief, very similar to drawing blood. There is usually minimal discomfort once the injection is complete.
We may briefly apply a cold compress to your injected area to help soothe it and reduce the swelling, if any. Afterwards we will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.
The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation.
If you’re like most patients, you’ll return directly to work or normal activity immediately.
JUVEDERM ULTRA XC RECOVERY
After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, itching at the injection site, or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 14–18 days in lips. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.
AFTER RECEIVING JUVEDERM ULTRA XC
As with most cosmetic injections, we recommend that you not exercise directly following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the product settling properly.
It’s important to avoid strenuous activities, like working out, for 8 hours following treatment. Do not lie down for 8 hours following treatment.
To avoid altering your body’s temperature avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or extreme cold.
To reduce the risk of facial cold sore recurrence that could be caused by needle punctures, talk with your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize the likelihood of an outbreak.
To decrease the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site you may use cold compresses to reduce swelling. Avoid alcohol, any non-prescribed blood thinners or NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, and some herbs like St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment.
HOW LONG DOES JUVEDERM ULTRA XC LAST?
The results and longevity of all dermal filler products vary from person to person depending on metabolism, water intake, exercise, vitamins, and various other personal factors.
Juvéderm Ultra XC itself lasts for different lengths of time in different people, depending upon where it is injected. In the perioral area, where there is more movement, Juvéderm tends to last for about six to nine months. The lips have the most movement, and thus, conservatively, lip fillers tend to last four to six months.
However, according to a study by Allergan, the company that produces Juvederm Ultra XC, 78% of people treated experienced improvement in satisfaction with the look and feel of their lips 1 year later. Additionally, when treated again after 1 year, patients needed less product to acheive their same desired results.
