DYSPORT
Known for being a twin sister to Botox, Dysport is a botulinum toxin. Just like Botox, it blocks the nerve activity, wherever injected, and prevents you from being able to use those muscles. The result is tighter, firmer looking skin, a dimunition of fine lines or wrinkles, and a fresher looking face.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
DYSPORT VS BOTOX
Botox and Dysport are similar products in that they are both wrinkle-fighting botulinum toxins. The makeup is practically identical, with dysport having a slightly smaller protein, which allows for it to be absorbed slightly quicker than Botox.
Cosmetic uses of Botox was approved by the FDA in 2002, seven years before Dysport’s 2009 release. (Botox was initially released in 1989 to treat eyelid spasms, squinting problems, and crossed eyes, but it’s use for cosmetic purposes wasn’t approved until 2002.) This gave Botox the head start to being a trusted, and dare-we-say, household name.
Dysport can also be injected deeper than Botox, which allows for it to spread more (2cm more). This slight difference in depth causes the product to spread more, and can create more even, and thus more natural results. It is for this reason that Dysport markets itself as a more natural-looking filler for those avoiding the “frozen” appearance.
Dysport is slightly cheaper per unit compared to Botox, however, more of the product is required to acheive the same results.
Dysport’s effects typically take hold in 2-5 days versus Botox, which takes 4-7 days to start kicking in.

WHICH IS BETTER, BOTOX OR DYSPORT
We’re huge fans of both products. Neither one is better than the other in general. There are, however, certain instances where a patient is looking for a specific type of result, perhaps in a specific time frame, and one product might be a better fit for that particular patient, or that particular area of the face or body to be injected.
Botox may be a better choice for some injection areas where a more concentrated effect is desired.

IS DYSPORT TRUSTWORTHY
Absolutely! Dysport, which was released in the USA in 2009 is available in 57 countries worldwide.
In 3 clinical studies of people whose “between-the-brow” frown lines were rated “moderate” or “severe” by a doctor before their treatment with Dysport:
- 30 days after treatment, a majority of patients treated with Dysport (55%, 52% and 60% in each of the 3 studies vs. 0% of patients treated with placebo) and their doctors both thought their frown lines improved by at least 2 grades to a rating of “none” or “mild” at maximum frown
- 30 days after treatment, the majority of patients treated with Dysport (88%, 85% and 86% in each of the 3 studies vs. 4%, 4% and 0%, respectively, of patients treated with placebo) had their frown lines rated by a doctor as “none” or “mild” with at least a 1-grade improvement at maximum frown
- 30 days after treatment, the majority of patients treated with Dysport (74%, 79% and 82% in each of the 3 studies vs. 9%, 1% and 2%, respectively, of patients treated with placebo) rated their own frown lines as “none” or “mild” with at least a 1-grade improvement at maximum frown

HOW DYSPORT WORKS
Dysport is a natural, purified protein that is injected into specific areas of the face with a ultra-fine blunt-tipped cannula needle. The tip of the needle is less than a sixth of the size of the tip of a pen. The rounded tip on these needles makes their entrance through the epidermis more gentle, which allows for less brusing and less trauma to the skin than traditional needles. Most people refer to it as a tiny prick, with little to no pain immediately after the injection is completed.
The product works its magic over time, and in less than a few days starts to take effect on the muscles, impairing them to move.

DYSPORT CANDIATES
Before Dysport injections, patients are asked to avoid taking the following medications and herbs for two weeks. which may increase bleeding, and may cause bruising.
- Any NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Aleve®, Motrin®, Advil®, or Aspirin®)
- Coumadin
- Garlic
- Ginseng
- Ginkgo Biloba
- Glucosamine
- Fish Oil, and St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, and Alcohol.
It is best to remove makeup from the area being treated. We will gladly do this in office for you, however it is ideal if this can be done prior to treatment.
DYSPORT PROCEDURE
At Estucia, all treatments begin with a private consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals. During the initial consultation, our practitioner in Palm Beach will take a brief medical history to ensure that there will be no adverse reactions to the product.
To make your experience as comfortable as possible, you’re welcomed to either sit or recline during treatment. The Botox procedure is quick with no anesthesia or numbing creme required. Injections are administered with an ultra-fine blunt needle directly into each of the areas being treated. Discomfort is minimal and brief, very similar to a tiny pinch or prick. There is usually no discomfort once the injection is complete.
We sometimes briefly apply a cold compress to your injected area to help soothe it and reduce the swelling, if any. Afterwards we will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.
Dysport is so simple, it’s very often injected at the same time as other wrinkle fillers such as Restylane, Radiesse and Juvederm.
The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation.
If you’re like most patients, you’ll be able to return directly to work or normal activity immediately.
Most people are very surprised the first time to see just how quickly and comfortably Dysport can be injected.
AFTER RECEIVING DYSPORT
It’s important to avoid strenuous activities, like working out, for 8 hours following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the product’s ability to settle properly.
Do not lie down for 8 hours following treatment.
To avoid altering your body’s temperature avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or extreme cold.
To reduce the risk of facial cold sore recurrence that could be caused by needle punctures, talk with your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize the likelihood of an outbreak.
To decrease the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site you may use cold compresses to reduce swelling.
Avoid alcohol, any non-prescribed blood thinners or NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, and some herbs like St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for a few days to one week after treatment.
HOW LONG DOES DYSPORT LAST?
The effects of Dysport take place in just a few days, with the full effects appearing after 14 days. Dysport is known to last for up to 6 months, however, people’s bodies absorb injections at different rates, depending on a variety of factors including exercise, vitamins, water intake, medications, metabolism, and other personal and health factors.
The location of the injections in the face or body may also impact the amount of time the Dysport treatment lasts in the body.
