HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK
Truly beautiful skin is soft, supple, and glowing. Yet with acne, sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, freckles, and sun spots, a luminous complexion can be difficult to achieve. A large body of research supports the use of Collagen Induction Therapy to get great skin.
Microneedling uses a mechanical device called a dermapen to make thousands of miniscule needle punctures in the outermost layers of the skin. By precisely controlling the depth, spacing, frequency, and pattern of these needle pricks, the dermapen stimulates your body to make more collagen in the areas where it needs it the most. Microneedling has been scientifically demonstrated to show improvement in fine lines, freckles and sun spots, scars, burns, pitted and non-pitted acne scars, stretch marks, and large pores.
MICRONEEDLING POWERMODE
For an even grander effect, microneedling can be combined with a liquid treatment on the skin surface– such as growth factors, vitamin C, or platelet rich plasma (PRP)– to further improve skin quality, evenness, and texture.
Also dubbed “the vampire facial”, the injection of your body’s own plasma (PRP) enables the skin to absorb more of these growth factors and increases the effectiveness of the microneedling treatment. The PRP combined with microneedling allows you to improve skin quality, evenness, and texture.
MICRONEEDLING FOR ACNE SCARS
Microneedling is a safe and effective treatment for acne scars. Additionally it treats stretch marks and other scarring.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MICRONEEDLING AND A DERMAROLLER
A dermaroller is a small handheld device with prongs on it that puncture the skin. It works in a similar fashion to microneedling, with a much greater risk of scraping, scratching, or causing other skin injury, and is not recommended.
When we microneedle, we use it with a device that hits your skin’s surface at a 90 degree (perpendicular) angle. This allows us to minimize scraping or other trauma to the skin that could cause scarring. Inexpensive devices like dermal rollers don’t hit the skin at a straight 90 degree angle and can be injurious for this reason as well.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOME OR SPA MICRONEEDLING AND PROFESSIONAL MICRONEEDLING
Spa & home needles are weaker, which can cause them to bend and injure the skin. They are also shorter and are therefore less effective.
A spa or home device will have short, fine needles that are 0.2 mm in depth and can be used two times a week or more. In contrast, medical microneedling performed by a qualified plastic surgeon uses long, fine needles with depths ranging from 2 to 7 mm, depending on your concern (in other words 10 to 35 times deeper than the spa model).
Spa & home needles can hurt your skin and cause scarring.
DOES MICRONEEDLING HURT?
Microneedling is virtually painless. A litocane numbing creme is applied to your face to keep you completely comfortable during your treatment. The treatment feels similar to a deep facial with added vibration. At the end of your treatment your face will be red and tingly as the nutrients absorb into your skin.
You can return to work immediately following treatment. Your skin will continue to improve for 4 to 6 weeks following your treatment. For best results, it can be repeated as often as every 6 weeks, or as infrequently as 2-4 times per year, depending on your concerns.
MICRONEEDLING VS A CHEMICAL PEEL
Microneedling is preferable to laser and chemical peels in many patients because it is safe for use in all skin tones, all parts of the body (including stretch marks on the abdomen), and all times of life (including pregnancy and breastfeeding). In addition, the downtime with Microneedling is quite short, with transient redness usually lasting less than a day (as compared to one week or more with peels or laser).

MICRONEEDLING CANDIDATES
Patients as young as 25 ask us if they are too young for microneedling. Although at Estucia we are traditionally reserved on performing cosmetic injections and aesthetic moderations on younger clientelle, a candidacy for microneedling varies from case to case. In cases of severe acne, microneedling may be appropriate on skin as young as 18.
We will happily provide a microneedling consultation with our skincare experts to discuss wether or not a microneedling treatment can give you softer, suppler, scar-free skin you’re looking for. Call (561) 682-1325 to schedule your complimentary consultation.
MICRONEEDLING PROCEDURE
At Estucia, all treatments begin with a private consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals. During the initial consultation, our practitioner in Palm Beach will take a brief medical history to ensure there will be no adverse reactions to the treatment.
After your conversation about your desired results, we will let you know if you are a candidate for microneedling or other skincare treatments, and if it is the best treatment option to achieve your desired results. We will review the number of treatments that will be needed to achieve your desired result.
We anesthetize and use litocane to numb the area before treatments. Afterwards we will provide a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatment.
For patients desiring more progressive results, treatments can be scheduled up to six weeks apart.
The entire appointment, including the consultation, should take one hour.
AFTER RECEIVING KYBELLA
Most patients will have bleeding immediately following treatment and minor swelling of the injected area for 1-3 days following treatment. This is normal, and will settle on its own.
As with most cosmetic injections, we recommend that you not exercise directly following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the healing process.
It’s important to avoid strenuous activities, like working out, for 8 hours following treatment. Do not lie down for 8 hours following treatment.
To avoid altering your body’s temperature avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or extreme cold.
To reduce the risk of facial cold sore recurrence that could be caused by needle punctures, talk with your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize the likelihood of an outbreak.
To decrease the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site you may use cold compresses to reduce swelling. Avoid alcohol, any non-prescribed blood thinners or NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, and some herbs like St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment.
At Estucia, with offices conveniently located in Palm Beach County, we are pleased to offer several products to fight visible signs of aging.
